  • Laredo North Border Patrol agents stopped a human smuggling attempt on August 20 when they intercepted a tractor-trailer at a checkpoint carrying seven undocumented migrants— the driver faces felony smuggling charges and the migrants will be charged with illegal entry.  KGNS News

  • Laredo firefighters were honored Monday for their search and recovery work during the Kerrville floods that killed over 100 people — their mission lasted from July 20 to Aug. 13 — as detailed in a report by Assistant Fire Chief Silvestre Rodriguez.  KGNS News
  • The City of Laredo approved its highest proposed budget on record on August 20 — a decision that will boost funding for city services and planned investments. Officials noted that community input helped shape the record-setting budget.  KGNS News

  • The Laredo Marathon is scheduled for November 16 and will add a new Adaptive Athlete Division so that runners with disabilities can join — local attorney Victor Treviño Jr. said. It is also the final year for the current Loop 20 route because of construction as organizers plan a new course with local landmarks and race options — including a full marathon, half marathon and run/walk with registration opening soon.  KGNS News
