CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 25-year-old man named Kendal Alejandro Monzon Jr. was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy and armed drug trafficking that led to large drug seizures at the Laredo port of entry—he also faced charges for possessing a machine gun. KGNS News
- ➤ Customs and Border Protection officers seized over $704K in meth at the Laredo Port of Entry on Tuesday, August 19 at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge—stopping a 27-year-old man during a secondary inspection, arresting him, and confiscating his vehicle. KGNS News
- ➤ On August 22, 2025, at about 9:40 a.m., a DPS trooper tried to stop a gray Cadillac for a traffic violation but the driver, 20-year-old Rolando Luna Garcia, and three passengers fled before a short chase ended on Highway US 83 south—Garcia, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was arrested and charged with human smuggling while the passengers were identified as being in the country illegally. - ➤ A man attempting to smuggle undocumented immigrants led DPS on a chase near Laredo on August 23rd—police said he evaded capture—and he remains at large. KGNS News
- ➤ Between August 15 and 21, the U.S. Attorney’s Office charged 376 people with border security offenses including 18 human smuggling cases, 206 for illegal entry and 150 for reentry after removal, with Laredo resident Kenneth Gamboa allegedly driving a truck hiding undocumented immigrants—part of Operation Take Back America. - ➤ On Saturday, August 23, the City of Laredo held its 4th Annual Memorial Walk at LBJ High School to honor United States Marine Lance Corporal David Lee Espinoza. Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, Council Member Gilbert Gonzalez, his family, and dozens of residents joined to remember his sacrifice—he was one of 13 service members who died during emergency evacuations in Kabul on August 26, 2021.
