San Agustin Plaza will receive $950,000 for planned improvements to upgrade community spaces and support local events; officials say construction will begin soon with more details to follow.
🎓 Education
Texas A&M International University and Laredo College started the fall semester on Monday, Aug.
24. TAMIU's Welcome Week runs until Friday, Aug. 29 with the last day to add or drop classes on Aug. 28, and Laredo College is hosting its own week of events.
🏛️ Government
U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced a three-month pilot that will extend Saturday hours at the World Trade Bridge starting Saturday, Sept.
5, with the port staying open until 7 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. to support efficient cargo movement and trade.
A $950,000 check was presented Monday, Aug.
24 to improve San Agustin Plaza in downtown Laredo. The funds from fiscal year 2027 Community Project Funding will support upgrades in irrigation, lighting, and new grass while preserving the plaza’s historic charm.
