CRIME NEWS

  • A week after a fatal shooting on the 100 block of West Clark Street that took Roy Villarreal’s life on Aug. 16, Laredo Police said they are still searching for suspect Victor Manuel Valadez—connected to the city's seventh homicide this year—and ask anyone with information to call anonymously.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laredo mayor said crime in the city has dropped — officials note that improved police work with local groups helped lower numbers — and that efforts will continue to keep the community safe.  KGNS News
  • Father Alan Sanchez, who served for nine years at the Diocese of Laredo, was forced to return to Monterrey because his work visa expired and he was removed from his posts at St. Joseph Church in La Pryor and St. Patrick Mission in Batesville. The diocese will transfer Father Heliodoro Lozano from St. Jude Church to La Pryor to fill his role—highlighting challenges with visa backlogs for clergy.  KGNS News
  • The Webb County Commissioners Court heard a presentation from Casa Blanca Golf Course general manager Oscar Urdiales on Monday, August 25 regarding upgrades needed as the Loop expansion will remove nine acres from the 125-acre course. The four-phase plan, which includes a new front nine, back nine and clubhouse—though no cost details have been provided—will be reviewed further by the court.  KGNS News

  • Laredo College and Laredo Public Health are hosting two health and resource fairs for new and expecting parents+ the first is tomorrow at Fort McIntosh Kazen Student Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. while the second will take place on Sept. 3 at South Campus Billy Hall Building, offering services from over 23 agencies.  KGNS News
