- ➤ United Way of Laredo will host an '80s-themed fundraiser on Sept. 5 at The Barn with the Spazmatics headlining to support 20 local agencies—tickets and table purchases remain available as the event nears sellout. KGNS News

- ➤ Dr. Christopher Maynard was named the only finalist for TAMIU president by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and said he is ready to work with TAMIU staff and community partners—his selection follows a search sparked by Dr. Pablo Arenaz’s death last October. KGNS News
- ➤ TAMIU has welcomed 32 new faculty members for the Fall semester from around the world after national and international searches led by the provost—these new hires will teach various courses as the school meets growing enrollment needs. - ➤ Texas A&M International University named Dr. Alfredo Ramírez as the new Dean of the College of Education to lead teacher training and college growth this Fall—he will focus on boosting promotion, tenure, and starting doctoral programs while helping teachers use new tools like A.I. - ➤ TAMIU is ending Welcome Week with CABchella, a free music festival and fireworks show held today from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Green + food trucks, inflatables, and live performances enhance the celebration for currently enrolled students while a portion of the University South Loop is closed to traffic. - ➤ UISD held a solemn tribute on August 28th to honor LCpl David Lee Espinoza for his service and sacrifice — the event brought together community members and officials to remember his contributions. KGNS News
- ➤ City officials announced that Downtown Laredo’s Iturbide Street will receive a $1.5M facelift — project plans are underway to update local infrastructure. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo Police reported Thursday, August 28 that technical problems affected some 911 lines outside the department—residents should call the main line at 956-795-2800 for emergencies as crews work to fix the issue. KGNS News
