- ➤ Laredo Public Health Department and Borderland Espresso have teamed up to present 'Sip Happens... So Does Healing,' a weekly mental health chat series held every Tuesday in September. The events run from 5 to 7 p.m.—community members are invited to enjoy coffee, play games, and discuss mental health in a relaxed setting. KGNS News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 31-year-old man, Jose Pablo Soliz, led a high-speed chase after fleeing officers in a stolen 2021 maroon Kia on Aug. 30 at about 11:06 p.m.—he was later arrested near Kearny and Cedar Avenue and charged with evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and reckless driving. KGNS News
- ➤ Police arrested an 18 year old man early Tuesday near Davis Avenue and Gonzalez Street in west Laredo after calls reported shots fired; officers found a gun with live rounds, a THC vape pen, and spent shell casings, and he is charged with firearm theft, controlled substance possession, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and firing a gun inside city limits (the gun was reported stolen in 2024). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At an August 14 meeting, the LISD school board voted 4-3 in favor of a new rule that lets third-year graduates compete for valedictorian and salutatorian honors — the change may affect the class of 2026, but a start date has not been set. KGNS News

- ➤ Officer Ceballos was honored as Champion of Justice on September 2 for protecting students during a safety incident—he was recognized for his brave actions that helped secure our schools. KGNS News
- ➤ On September 1, new Texas laws let police tow vehicles when drivers do not have a valid license, are uninsured, or break move over rules by increasing fines. Municipal Judge Jesus Dominguez said the rules will hold car owners responsible if unlicensed minors drive. KGNS News
- ➤ The Webb County Constables’ Office in Precinct 1 has received over $170,000 for new dash and body cameras—upgrades that modernize operations and support transparent reporting during traffic stops and investigations, with new laptops set to be added soon. KGNS News

- ➤ Nonprofit organizations and school districts in Laredo are raising awareness during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to support young fighters like Nancy Gizelle Lozano and Santiago Cardenas battling cancer. United ISD will hold a proclamation ceremony on Friday, September 5 to honor these students—showing local commitment. KGNS News
