CRIME NEWS

  • Laredo Police officers chased a vehicle at 2:14 a.m. this morning near the 2100 block of Chihuahua St after the driver ignored a traffic stop and his tire blew on US HWY 83, and they later arrested him after a foot pursuit and found seven THC vape pens in his vehicle (21-year-old Leroy Cortez) charged with evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance.  KGNS News
  • On Sep. 5 at 2:10 p.m., LPD officers arrived at a welfare call and found two children unconscious—investigation details are pending.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Drive-in movies return to Laredo with a Halloween double feature that will show two classic horror films later this month. Local organizers say the event will bring a unique outdoor movie experience to families and movie lovers alike—tickets will be available soon.  KGNS News
  • Moviegoers enjoyed the debut of the Sunset Drive-In and Cinema on Friday night—where a double feature began at 8:15 p.m. at 326 Francisco Guerra Road near Highway 359.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Aaron Garza, a third grader from San Isidro Elementary, has been selected for the 2025 National Math Stars Program — the program will give him more than $100,000 in support including weekly math mentoring until he graduates. He is one of 57 chosen statewide and the only student selected from his region.  KGNS News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sep. 5, Laredo's bishop received the key to the city for 25 years of faithful service—an honor that marks his long-term commitment to local residents. City officials said the recognition reflects his ongoing contributions to the community.  KGNS News

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Friday morning, UISD partnered with Smiles From Heaven at the UISD boardroom to hold a 10 a.m. event that raised awareness of childhood cancer and urged support for affected families—officials noted that this disease is the leading cause of death among children and teens.  KGNS News
