  • Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association has named Veterans of Foreign Wars (POST 9194) as parade marshals for the Anheuser-Busch Washington’s Birthday Parade on February 21 at 9 a.m. Mary Help of Christians School-Celebrating 90 years will lead the IBC/Commerce Bank Youth Parade Under the Stars on February 19 at 6 p.m. as both parades follow their usual route through historic downtown Laredo.  KGNS News

CRIME NEWS

  • Three human smugglers were charged in connection with a mass casualty event — a December 2021 tractor-trailer crash that killed over 50 and injured more than 100 — and have since appeared in federal court in Laredo.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A third-grade student from San Isidro Elementary was chosen for the 2025 National Math Stars program that will offer over $100,000 in long-term academic support including math mentorship and STEM enrichment — Aaron Garza is the only student selected from region one.  KGNS News

  • United Independent School District has partnered with Smiles from Heaven for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month—committed to supporting children with cancer, promoting research donations, and helping families in need.  KGNS News
  • UISD partnered with Smiles from Heaven for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month — the partnership will offer local events and resources to support families dealing with the disease.  KGNS News
  • Today, UISD hosts a press conference in the Boardroom at 201 Lindenwood Dr. at 11:30 a.m.—a National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month event that invites community partners and the public to take a stand against a mental health crisis.  KGNS News
