COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A funeral procession for a retired Laredo police investigator was held on September 12, 2025, as family, friends, and local officials gathered to honor his legacy—his dedicated service left a marked impact on the community.   • Texas A&M International University hosted Mob Fest 2025 on Friday afternoon at the Dustdevil soccer field ahead of its men’s soccer game against the University of Jamestown, where more than 25 vendors offered food, drinks + free shirts and family activities.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Mexican Consulate advised local residents to follow safety and legal precautions for Mexican Independence Day festivities — a major cultural event in Laredo — as celebrations approach. City officials said additional security measures — including extra patrols — will start on September 16th to ensure a safe environment.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TAMIU now offers College Night at the City of Laredo Tennis Complex every Tuesday from 7 to 8:45 p.m.—a free event giving students a chance to socialize and exercise. The program started with the Fall semester and will expand with planned events like Red Ball and Tennis, TAMIU & Tacos on September 16.  Texas A&M International University
  • United ISD is working to boost school attendance as rates drop since the COVID-19 pandemic and some students may fear coming to school because of ICE raids. Thelma Martinez said schools will offer monetary incentives and hold special celebrations this September—steps meant to bring attendance back to pre-pandemic levels.  KGNS News
  • UISD officials met on September 12 to discuss low attendance rates after data showed a drop in student turnout. They will review policies and plan new measures to boost attendance soon.  KGNS News
