- ➤ The Children’s Miracle Network is teaming with MileOne for a family-friendly bowling fundraiser on Sunday, September 21 at Jett Bowl North from noon to 3 p.m.—teams of five can register for a $150 donation that covers shoe rental, pizza and drinks while all proceeds support local hospitals providing pediatric care. - ➤ The Women’s City Club in Laredo will hold auditions Tuesday, September 23, at the Falcon Bank Center for its annual 'Laredo’s Got Talent' showcase—inviting singers, dancers, comedians and magicians to audition from 6 to 8 p.m.—with about 10 acts set to compete in a final show on Nov. 15 and prize money of $1,500, $1,000 and $500 to be donated to charities chosen by the winners. - ➤ City Council approved funds for a two-year contract with SPL, Inc. — the new agreement will allow the utilities department to start testing all water and wastewater samples in house within a year. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo truck drivers shared their views on the proposed English proficiency rule that may soon be enforced—some believe it will boost safety while others worry it could hinder job performance. KGNS News
- ➤ The LMCA is urging Laredo locals to oppose a new rule that stops daily visa renewals for drayage truck drivers who answer less than 80% of English questions—most drivers, who are Mexican nationals, already face uncertainty at the border. Officials warn—because drivers may not read traffic signs—that the rule risks safety and could delay freight flows. KGNS News
