COMMUNITY NEWS

  • MileOne is inviting Laredo residents to the inaugural Texas Venture Fest on Thursday, October 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the MileOne building at 1312 Houston Street+ local entrepreneurs and community leaders will network to form new business connections.  KGNS News
  • Residents in central Laredo remain concerned that heavy rain on September 25 may have destabilized the filled sinkhole on E. Frost St.—city crews were dispatched to secure the area and repair the damage.  KGNS News
  • Heavy rain from Wednesday left a trail of mud at Wright Ranch where sinkholes, stuck cars & broken radio towers were seen. Neighbors worked to clean up the mess while Council Member Gilbert Gonzalez said he will work with the developer to fix the empty lots that caused the heavy runoff.  KGNS News

  • The Laredo Theater Guild International is performing a new take on Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility at TAMIU Fine and Performing Arts Center from September 25th to October 5th—showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday with free entry for students.  KGNS News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Green Corridors has begun planning an intelligent freight transportation system that will move driverless trucks carrying cargo from Monterrey to Laredo—designed to ease traffic by separating freight from regular vehicles. Construction will begin when Mexico issues permits and is expected to complete in roughly five years.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laredo College celebrated its 78th anniversary yesterday — marking a milestone in its longstanding service to local students. The college remains a central part of education in the community as it continues to provide academic opportunities.  KGNS News
  • On Thursday morning, Trautmann Elementary opened the first Little Yellow Library in Laredo with over 250 diverse and bilingual books, a custom yellow bookshelf, and literacy support from Siete Foods Juntos Fund and the Kendra Scott Foundation—students received swag bags and encouragement to read.  KGNS News
  • The TAMIU Bookstore has temporarily relocated to Room 125 at the Western Hemispheric Trade Center to keep offering course materials, supplies, and spirit gear during ongoing construction—its hours are Monday through Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-3pm.  Texas A&M International University

  • Laredo officials declared September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month+ urging women to review their family cancer history and seek screenings at the local clinic due to the disease's hard-to-detect nature and significant impact, with over 20,000 new cases and 12,000 deaths estimated in 2025+.  KGNS News
