COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ LACS introduced Lela—a 4-year-old Boston Terrier mix—as Pet of the Week on October 8. LACS will host a dog costume contest event on October 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at its office on 5202 Maher Ave to offer free vaccinations and adoption opportunities. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo College is hosting its free Fall Fest on Oct. 18 at the LC South Campus—families can enjoy lucha libre, costume contests, live music and a new petting zoo. Falcon Bank is sponsoring the event. LaredoBuzz
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Laredo Utilities Department began its free chlorine conversion last Friday—causing drinking water to smell and taste different—but officials say the water remains safe. They explained the odor will last three to five days and will return in November when the treatment switches back. KGNS News
- ➤ Today, Laredo was named a Texas Tourism Friendly community—local officials say the recognition follows a careful review of its visitor programs and will support business growth. The designation marks an important step in the city's efforts to welcome tourists. KGNS News
- ➤ El Metro Transit announced it will run regular Fixed Route and El Lift/Paratransit services on Founders Day Monday, October 13 — while closing the Customer Service and Administrative offices — with both offices reopening Tuesday, October 14. LaredoBuzz
- ➤ On October 6, Laredo City Council approved terms to complete phase one at Buena Vista Sports Complex as officials said the project is 90—92% finished with rain delays pushing its early November completion and plans to hire about 18 new staff. KGNS News
- ➤ City Council met Monday to discuss the Lafayette Tiny Homes Project after contractors shifted plans so the homes no longer serve homeless veterans as originally intended. Council members decided to table item 7 for two weeks to reassess funding and tenant policies—pending revised plans from the contractor. KGNS News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Area Health Education Center held a meeting at Blas Castaneda Park on Wednesday morning to remind locals of the 988 crisis lifeline. The center said the lifeline, active for two years, helped 600 people avoid a tragic end as 17 lives were lost and Texas ranks second in calls. KGNS News
