COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over 450 volunteers from TAMIU and Laredo College will spend Oct. 25 from 7 a.m. to noon on Make A Difference Day 2025, working to improve public spaces in downtown Laredo, near the City Health Department, and at the Larga Vista Community Center. Students will also host a kids clothing donation drive with donations accepted from Oct. 20 to Oct. 24 at the Student Center, room 226—donations that will earn service hours based on the number of items given.  Texas A&M International University
  • Several Laredo groups and leaders mark World Food Day today by launching efforts to fight hunger and promote food security. The Laredo Regional Food Bank started its second Zero Hunger 2.0 campaign at the Border Heritage Museum — Food Town, asking residents to donate non-perishable items and join community classes.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Diocese of Laredo will host its 23rd annual White Mass on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at San Agustin Cathedral—an event that will honor healthcare professionals and health program students by uniting them in faith and prayer.  KGNS News
  • TAMIU's Campus Activities Board and the Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement announced they will host a free family-friendly Halloween Fest on Oct. 30 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Green, and the event will feature food, games, a pumpkin patch and educational booths that benefit student organizations.  Texas A&M International University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas A&M International University signed new memorandums with three Nuevo Laredo high schools last week to renew long-standing educational ties—this follows a record fall enrollment of over 9,000 students and boosts cross-border collaboration. The agreements will support campus visits, academic guidance, and community events, deepening cultural exchanges in our region.  Texas A&M International University
  • Students, families and community members will gather at Laredo College's south campus on Saturday, October 18 from 5 to 9 p.m.—the annual Fall Festival will offer a pumpkin patch, costume contest, petting zoo, food stands and inflatables for all to enjoy.  KGNS News

  • No Kings coalition leaders spoke on Oct 16 about plans for an upcoming protest — they did not reveal the time or location, leaving details pending.  KGNS News
  • The 'No Kings' coalition announced plans for nationwide protests during a virtual press conference on October 16—saying millions of Americans may rally peacefully against what they call authoritarian power grabs at pro-democracy events planned for October 18. In Texas, Governor Abbott has deployed the National Guard as local organizers recall their June protest where many Laredoans gathered to speak out.  KGNS News

  • The 23rd Annual White Mass will honor healthcare professionals during a local ceremony—organizers say the event will recognize their service and support—and continue a tradition that unites the community.  KGNS News
