CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Laredo Police Department is seeking help to locate the family of an elderly resident reported missing on October 23—anyone with information is urged to contact the department immediately. KGNS News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Laredo Philharmonic will perform a concert celebrating movie scores from films such as Star Wars, The Mission, Back to the Future and Forrest Gump. Dr. Joseph Crabtree and John Reimund explained that the event will bring together film and music in a unique way. KGNS News
- ➤ The Imaginarium of South Texas will host two kid-friendly events on October 25 at Building P-149 on West End Washington St: a Pumpkin Carving Family Workshop with sessions at 3 p.m., 4:15 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., and a Booktober costume contest at 4 p.m. Pumpkins cost $10 for members and $15 for non-members who must call (956)728-0404 to reserve their spot, and organizers ask that costumes be non-scary. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The UISD Board of Trustees held a special meeting on Oct 17 to discuss changes at the Cherish Center after parents voiced concerns over potential limits on Pre Vocational Learning Skills, Structured Learning Center & medically fragile programs. UISD clarified that no services are being cut but some will shift back to students' home campuses as the center is set to become a full vocational campus by the end of the 2028 to 2029 school year. - ➤ On Oct. 23, the UISD board met to update community members on district plans and education policies—officials said the meeting will guide upcoming changes in local schools. KGNS News

- ➤ The DEA announced a National Take Back event for safe medication disposal that will run over the weekend + local officials encourage residents to check local notices for designated drop-off locations. KGNS News
- ➤ TxDOT is launching its 'Be Safe, Drive Smart' campaign to remind Laredo drivers and pedestrians to stay alert as it gets dark earlier. Officials said pedestrian crashes tend to rise after daylight saving time ends (six pedestrian fatalities were reported this year, down from eight last year) and urged everyone to pay closer attention on the road.
