COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local group held a food SNAP drive on Oct.31 in Laredo to help residents get nutritious supplies. Organizers reported the drive collected donations to support families with limited food access.  KGNS News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • YouTube TV dropped ABC Laredo from its service amid an ongoing dispute between Google and Disney — viewers can still watch the station free over the air or through streaming apps on their devices.  KGNS News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mother Cabrini Parish will host its Día de los Muertos—themed Jamaica event on Nov 2 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church where family-friendly contests, games, raffles and over $15,000 in cash prizes will support church upkeep on the west side.  KGNS News
  • On Saturday, November 1, the City of Laredo cemetery will maintain regular hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and extend its Sunday hours—7 a.m. to 8 p.m.—to accommodate Dia de los Muertos celebrations. Cemetery crews prepared the grounds on Friday, October 31, and large crowds are expected to visit this weekend.  KGNS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A majority of 67.1% of TAMIU students voted online over three days to support a referendum that would maintain and enhance Rec Sports services. TAMIU president Dr. Christopher Maynard said the measure now awaits approval—if accepted by the Board of Regents at their February 2026 meeting, the fee will rise by $17 per long semester starting Fall 2026.  Texas A&M International University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Laredo officials held a press conference on October 31 to announce a food drive at the Laredo Fire Department on Del Mar Blvd.—the drive runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to help families impacted by the expiration of SNAP benefits amid the ongoing government shutdown.  KGNS News
  • A recent Animal Control Services Committee meeting raised concerns that feeding stray animals could lead to fines under a city ordinance. Resident Laura Reyna said she will keep feeding stray cats because she believes they cannot feed themselves — a stance that has alarmed some residents.  KGNS News
  • The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality lifted the boil water notice for Rio Bravo and El Cenizo after Webb County tests found water safe following an overfeed of coagulant that raised turbidity—residents no longer need to boil their water.  KGNS News
