- ➤ Telissa Molano was honored by L.I.F.E. as its Arts Advocate of the Year — the award recognizes her support for the arts — marking a milestone in her community contributions. KGNS News
- ➤ Telissa Molano was named Arts Advocate of the Year for 2025-26 by L.I.F.E. on Wednesday morning thanks to her work with the Laredo Cultural District that unites artists with students. The Life Gala will celebrate creativity and community collaboration on Feb. 11 and 12 at IBC Lago del Rio — the event is free to the community. KGNS News
- ➤ Ana Garcia of the Joe Guerra Public Library explained that the Teen’s Hispanic Heritage Book Club celebrates local roots by choosing the anthology Wild Tongues Can’t Be Tamed for its next read. The club for teens in grades 5 to 12 will meet on Tuesday, December 9th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.—new participants are welcome. KGNS News

- ➤ Eighth-grade students in Laredo have until December 17 to apply for one of 7 specialty schools offered by LISD—each providing dual enrollment or career certifications—and no entrance exam is required for a single online application. KGNS News
- ➤ United ISD invites UISD families to the Parent Learning Summit themed 'All In For the Win' at United High School on November 8 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.—the event will include sessions on gang and social media awareness, early college programs, and inspirational talks from 360 Athletics—with breakfast and door prizes provided. - ➤ The Laredo Municipal Court partnered with LACS to let people with citation fees foster pets for community service credit. Eligible applicants earned 4—8 hours after passing a vetting process, and they could visit the shelter from October 5. KGNS News
- ➤ Southern Webb County’s new fire station on Mangana Hein Road opened today to serve Southern Laredo, Rio Bravo, and El Cenizo and is staffed by trained firefighters, including a captain, two drivers and an ambulance crew + water is supplied from the Río Bravo treatment plant. Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez announced that a health clinic project near Rio Bravo on Highway 83 will begin in early 2026. KGNS News
- ➤ Laredo City Council voted Monday to boost mental health services with over $300,000 in funding that supports suicide prevention, mental health counseling, opioid disorder treatment and first responder wellness. The measures include a $162,231 grant from TAMIU to create a Licensed Professional Counselor position beginning August 1 and additional funds for the police and fire departments—aimed at strengthening community support. - ➤ Laredo officials announced a new utility payment relief program for federal workers during the shutdown to help with overdue utility bills. Federal workers must check their eligibility now—officials said the plan aims to ease financial stress until funding resumes. KGNS News
