- ➤ A Laredo volunteer known as Cobra spent 24 hours in a dog kennel to raise awareness for older dogs waiting for homes at the LAPS shelter—he said his act shows that many dogs have waited years for a chance at a loving home. KGNS News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ TAMIU students in the Practicum Seminar in the Arts course will host an opening reception of their artwork on November 20 from 5—7 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery, and the exhibit will remain open until December 4. Texas A&M International University
- ➤ KGNS reporter Ellie Bednarz interviewed local native Pete Astudillo, who was a backup singer for Selena y Los Dinos, about the Netflix documentary—Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy—set to debut November 17. The film will show rare family archive footage and explore Selena’s life and legacy. KGNS News

- ➤ Laredo ISD will conduct a large-scale reunification drill next week to test emergency protocols—district officials say the drill is designed to improve readiness among students and staff. KGNS News
- ➤ On November 13, TAMIU Communication Sciences and Disorders students donned new black scrubs to offer bilingual speech therapy—providing assessments and intervention services to children and adults—from the campus clinic, helping clients from Laredo and beyond. Texas A&M International University
- ➤ Texas A&M International University students are invited to submit art and writing entries in a contest hosted by the City of Laredo Public Arts Project. The contest accepts all types of entries and ends on Dec. 7 at 11:59 p.m.—selected projects may win a cash prize. Texas A&M International University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A system outage on the Mexican side of the World Trade Bridge delayed commercial traffic along westbound Loop 20 near Mines Road on Nov. 13—Laredo Police reported that the system resumed working at 4 p.m. and traffic returned to normal. KGNS News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Overdose deaths in Laredo dropped from 66 in 2023 to 14 so far in 2025—prompting officials to place a Narcan vending machine at the Preventive Care Clinic on McPherson. The health department will add another machine at TAMIU’s tennis complex to support college students while police report fewer related incidents. KGNS News
- ➤ Tomorrow, the annual Harvest of Health event will take place at Mercy Clinic, 2500 Zacatecas St. from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., offering free screenings, immunizations, exercise classes, educational activities, health-themed Loteria games, door prizes—20 turkeys and six $50 H-E-B gift cards—and fingerprinting for children by the sheriff’s department to promote early detection and prevention ahead of flu season.
