Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Laredo is hosting its Virgen de Guadalupe celebration today and will continue the event into Friday with activities that honor local traditions.
On Wednesday, Knights of Columbus from Laredo and Nuevo Laredo gathered at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge to present the Silver Rose in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe as part of a 65-year pilgrimage that continued into Mexico, with the rose set to be taken to the Basilica of Guadalupe in Monterrey.

Federal policy will cut nursing student loan limits from $200,000 to $100,000 starting July 1, and Laredo Mayor Trevino said city officials will petition the White House to reclassify nursing as a professional degree program to support local healthcare growth.
Diana Zamarripa, a pre-K-4 teacher at St. Augustine Elementary, is named December Teacher of the Month by KGNS today and receives a $250 gift card+additional prizes for her compassionate teaching.
KGNS anchor Mindy Casso is honored with the 2026 Noche de Cabaret Higher Education Award by LULAC Council No. 7 for her community-focused education efforts.
The award ceremony will take place at the end of January in recognition of her work.
